Singapore International Water Week

Singapore International Water Week

The Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) is the global platform to share and co-create innovative water solutions. The biennial event gathers stakeholders from the global water industry to share best practices, showcase the latest technologies and tap business opportunities. SIWW is part of the strategic programme of the Singapore Government to grow the water industry and develop water technologies. Held in between the main SIWW editions, the SIWW Spotlight series are exclusive by-invitation events to continue the dialogue from SIWW and foster ongoing exchanges on pressing challenges faced by the water industry worldwide. This meeting of minds focuses on critical issues and discussions in greater depth, where the outcomes will shape the programme and content for SIWW. These events are organised by Singapore International Water Week Pte Ltd, a company set up by Singapore’s Ministry of the Environment & Water Resources and PUB, Singapore’s national water agency. The 7th Singapore International Water Week will be held in conjunction with the 5th World Cities Summit and the 3rd CleanEnviro Summit Singapore, from 10 – 14 July 2016 at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Singapore – World Water Day in Singapore: By the Community, For the Community

This year, 350 organizations in Singapore organized over 250 activities and initiatives to commemorate World Water Day. The island-wide celebrations reached out to over 400,000 people. In line with the global effort to raise awareness on the importance of water sustainability, the theme for the celebrations is ‘Every Drop Counts’; reminding all residents to cherish and conserve water. The month-long event culminated on Sat, 21 March 2015 at the Singapore Sports Hub, where over 6,000 people took part in community-led activities such as a Walk for Water, Cycle for Water and Paddle for Water. To commemorate WWD, iconic attractions such as the Singapore Flyer, Supertrees at Gardens By The Bay and the Singapore Sports Hub turned blue for water. Commuters on the North-East Line MRT train also got to catch an MRT train cabin specially decked-out in water conservation messages. Singapore – Bukit Batok Canal poised to become a Community Focal Point (17 January 2015)

Singapore – Bukit Batok Canal poised to become a Community Focal Point (17 January 2015)

One of PUB’s four ABC (Active, Beautiful & Clean) Waters projects to commence in 2015 Residents of Bukit Batok can soon look forward to a new community space when a 230-metre stretch of the Bukit Batok Canal is given a facelift under PUB’s Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) programme. Located between Bukit Batok West Ave 2 and 4, ABC Waters @ Bukit Batok Canal will transform the neighbourhood into a vibrant communal space while allowing residents to get close to and better appreciate the waterway. The project also complements the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme upstream of the canal to provide an enhanced living environment for residents. As part of the makeover, rain gardens will be incorporated along the canal bank to detain and cleanse rainwater runoff before discharging the water into the canal.  The rain gardens also promote biodiversity, while beautifying the surrounding landscape.  In addition, creepers along the canal walls and new plantings will give the area an aesthetical boost while timber seats along the waterway allow residents to enjoy the cool breeze by the waterway.
