World Water Day celebration is a concern for the importance of water for life and an invitation to manage the sustainability of water resources. The Tree Planting Movement was started in 2010 and has developed public awareness on the importance of planting and maintaining trees. The planting of trees will also increase the size and quality of green open spaces.

The Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) has actively participated annually to increase the number of trees in Indonesia. The activities are carried out through tree planting activities in various fields of infrastructure projects, such as on the banks of rivers, reservoirs, on roadsides of both arterial roads and highways. Planting trees in the retention pond (polders) will make the polder not only as a mere physical infrastructure, but also a tourist and economic development of communities that are environmentally friendly. The planting of trees can be also be used as a strategy to mitigate the impacts of global climate change, degradation and deforestation of land, as well as part of efforts to conserve water resources.
